Winning Attitude

You must have a “winning attitude” to be a winner in negotiation. In my training course, I usually repeat the word “attitude” to my students whenever I can. We all know that recruiters nowadays focus on 3 important elements A.S.K (Attitude – Skills – Knowledge) to find the most suitable and talented employee for them. In this blog, I want to share some information that I have concluded after many years doing negotiation and affairs and somehow it helps you to win in your negotiation:

  1. Firstly, you have to remember the foundation of a good attitude is the “CONFIDENCE” in your product and service, besides, you also have to be confident about yourself. What you say, you present to others with confidence will create certain trust in your partner. Of course, the confidence I said here must be on the basis that you have fully equipped yourself with the most accurate information and data for the negotiation.
  2. Next, you have to DRESS AND BEHAVE as politely as possible. Dressing politely is a way to show your politeness and respect to the opposite and is proof that you have a good attitude. (remember the politeness I mentioned here is the neatness, professionalism in your behavior and outlook. Don’t think you are polite only because you wear expensive clothes, it’s wrong.
  3. Then, in the conversation, “LISTENING” is the key, to show that you are listening with all your body language, giving an opinion and noting carefully (if necessary). I totally agree with a great trainer – Mr. Schiffman – One of America’s top sales coaches who had the same idea as me: “Negotiation is a conversation between two sides. Remember, you can’t negotiate with yourself. So, you have to let the other know that you are listening, even though you don’t agree with what they said.”
  4. Finally, pay your attention to “BODY LANGUAGE” as well as the speech of the other. It will bring some informative suggestions for you to set your next step in the future negotiations in the best direction. Hope those strategies above will bring many advantages to you in your negotiation to success in your career!
